Acquired Brain Injury Services (ABI)

Provided by Interior Health

Provides rehabilitation services to people age 19 to 64 who have suffered from an acquired brain injury
ABI services also help families, caregivers, and staff in supporting individuals with brain injury and in understanding and managing the changes to their family that may occur after brain injury.

ABI services provide the following:
  • Assessment and rehabilitation planning/consultation
  • Coordination of services to ensure a holistic approach to rehabilitation and support
  • Assistance in goal-based community integration and skill development
  • Information about acquired brain injury
  • Training and education to service providers working with patients with ABI
The focus is supporting recovery from the physical, cognitive, emotional and social impacts of the injury. Community Rehabilitation services may include occupational therapy, physiotherapy, speech and language services, psychological counselling, and neuropsychological assessment.

Community Support provides services to people who need help managing the normal activities of daily living; services may include life skills training such as cooking, shopping, paying bills, and attending medical appointments. Day Program provides a variety of social and recreational programs. Residential Services provides residential placement for people who require 24-hour supervision and support; services include short-stay residential rehabilitation, family care homes, and group homes.

Provides for individuals aged 19 through 64 years. If the client is younger or older than this age range, please contact the ABI Case Coordinator for more information.
