Early Psychosis Intervention Program - For young adults experiencing a first psychotic episode - Kootenay Boundary

Provided by Interior Health

Provides early identification and treatment for first episode of psychosis. For residents of the Kootenay Boundary area aged 19+.
Provides early intervention for schizophrenia spectrum, bipolar psychosis, and brief psychotic episodes.
For young adults aged 19 and above living in the Kootenay Boundary area (Castlegar, Crawford Bay & East Shore, Grand Forks, Kaslo, Nakusp, Nelson & Salmo, and Trail). Rural locations may have limited services. This is one of four catchment areas for the Early Psychosis Intervention Program in the Interior Region.
Provides treatment for First Episode Psychosis, including:
  • Psychosis NOS
  • Bipolar disorder with psychotic features
  • Schizoaffective disorder with psychotic features
  • Schizophrenia
  • Substance-induced psychosis

Inclusion criteria may include one or more of the following:
  • auditory hallucinations
  • visual hallucinations or other perceptual disturbance
  • thought disturbance
  • paranoia or bizarre behaviour

Anyone can refer including self-referral.
After Hours 24 hours a day call Regional Mental Health Crisis Line at no charge 1-888-353-2273. This number is provided to clients if they are experiencing increased symptoms outside of office hours. The crisis line provides clients with any emotional support needed and connects clients to various resources in the community including 911.
