Foster Family and Guardianship Resource Team

Provided by Carrier Sekani Family Services

Recruits, develops, and maintains a range of homes in which to place children (aged 0-19) in foster care in Prince George, Vanderhoof, Burns Lake, and the 11 Carrier Sekani Family Services Member Nation communities.
The Resource Team serves children and youth from 0-19 years of age in the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD), Nezul Be, and Carrier Sekani Family Services (CSFS) care. The team provides services in Prince George, Vanderhoof, Burns Lake, and the 11 CSFS Member Nation communities.

The goals of the Foster Family Resources Team are to:
  • place the child in care in an appropriate home in order to meet their needs
  • recruit caregivers in and outside of the 11 communities we serve
  • have children placed with their siblings
  • ensure standards are met
  • provide appropriate relevant training to foster parents
  • support foster parents

The Guardianship Program provides delegated social workers to work with children who are in care and are from the 11 communities served by CSFS. The majority of client paperwork is completed within CSFS agency offices. Program workers also meet with children and families in their homes, foster homes, and group homes. As the guardians of the children, program workers attend appointments in the community (e.g. courthouse, doctor's offices, schools, hospitals, etc.) to ensure the wellbeing of children in care. The program works with individuals in all areas of the life cycle. Social workers meet with foster families every 90 days and with children-in-care every 30 days. Some children-in-care are seen more often (bi-weekly) due to high needs.

Services are provided free of charge to children in care and caregivers.

The Resource Team's mandate is to go into the foster homes or group homes every 90 days as per government standards; however, we communicate with our caregivers more frequently at training, during phone calls, over text, and at community events.
