Central Okanagan Hospice Association - Support Services

Offers a wide variety of services and programs for hospice & palliative support, as well as grief support in Central Okanagan.
Services:
Community Hospice Visiting Program: Compassionate and trained volunteers provide emotional, social, spiritual, practical and respite support for clients and their families.

Wellness programs: Focuses on an integrated approach that supports the mind, body and spirit. All of the wellness programs require pre-registration and run at various times throughout the year. Includes Yoga, Reiki and Meditation.

Vigil Service: Volunteers provide support and a caring presence in the final days and hours of a person’s life.

Adult Grief & Bereavement Program: Offers a diversity of support to help anyone who is grieving the loss of a loved one. All programs are offered in a safe and respectful space to share, listen and receive compassionate support from others. Programs include:
  • One-to-One Counselling Support
  • Anticipatory Grief Support
  • Bereavement Support
  • One-to-One Volunteer Support
  • Grief Groups
  • Walking Groups

Children and Youth Grief and Bereavement: Offers a variety of programs and services for children and youth ages 5–19, guided by core principles designed to support them through difficult times. Includes:
  • One to One Counselling Support
  • Anticipatory Grief Support
  • One-to-One Expressive Art Therapy Support
  • Grief Groups
  • Outreach Capacity Support
  • Horse Whisperer Grief Camp
  • Expressive Arts Activity Nights

Advance Care Planning: Includes writing down wishes and talking with healthcare providers and financial or legal professionals.

Library & Resources Lending library has an array of books that includes many topics such as mindfulness, spirituality, practical steps after diagnosis, death and dying, poetry, caregiving, grief and bereavement, talking to children, healing, specific diseases, hope, children’s colouring and bereavement stories, and inspirational stories to name a few. DVDs and CDs are also available.
