Indigenous Patient Liaison (Northern Health Area)

Provide Indigenous patients' and their families with resources to cope with the stresses of a family member having to leave their home and community to come to the Prince George hospital.
The Indigenous Patient Liaison Worker (IPLW) serves as a connection between communities and the hospital healthcare staff to help facilitate healing. The worker also assists Indigenous patients with accessing additional services outside of the UHNBC as needed.
The IPLW works in many areas throughout the hospital such as the ICU, pediatrics, maternity, primary care medical unit and more.

  • Translation between carrier dialects and English.
  • Help with applying for healthcare travel benefits to cover the cost of travel, hotels, food, and transport.
  • General information about your hospital stay and help to complete forms.
Referral Instructions: To access services, simply contact your Community Health Representative (CHR), Nurse or Social Worker and they can connect you with the In-Hospital Support. If you are being transferred to another hospital, please let your APLW know. They will contact the Aboriginal Liaison worker at the hospital you are going to and let them know you will be arriving. In Prince George and Burns Lake, contact the APLW through the numbers below.
